Grant helps villagers continue improvements to play area

August 03 2006

Villagers working hard to replace dilapidated equipment at Carleton in Craven play area have been given a welcome cash boost by Yorventure.

They have received a grant of more than £18,000 from the environmental body, which is backed by Northallerton based waste management company Yorwaste Ltd.

It has paid for a futuristic new adventure climbing frame for children aged ten and over, which will be installed at the play area this week (w/c August 7).

The grant is a fitting reward for members of Carleton in Craven Playground Association, who have already raised £7,500 to provide a new toddlers’ roundabout and springy rides, with help from Craven District Council and Carleton in Craven Parish Council.

The Playground Association was set up in 2004 by parents who wanted better and safer play equipment for their children and launched the fund-raising campaign.

Vice chairman of the Association, Andrew McFadd, said: “It’s been a long haul but well worth it to see the derelict old playground gradually being improved.

“The Yorventure grant has helped us to buy some much-needed equipment for our older kids so it’s extremely welcome.

“We’ll continue with the fund-raising now until all the old equipment is replaced.”
