Skipton Baptist Church Hall Renovations
Community ProjectIn November 2002, Yorventure awarded a £24,000 grant towards renovations and refurbishments at Skipton Baptist Church, situated within 5 miles of the Yorwaste landfill site at Skibeden.
The project involved renovating and refurbishing the church’s community hall to better accommodate the various community groups using the facility, including a charity run after school club (Hopscotch Plus) that cares for children from 4 – 11 years old for approximately 50 families in the local area.
Other groups to benefit from the project that regularly use the church hall facilities include the Men’s Forum, a cardiac exercise group, Social Services, Craven College, Pre-School Learning Alliance, Ripon Voluntary Action Group and Craven Voluntary Action Group, as well as various church related groups including Sunday School.
The project involved repairing the roof of the church building, supplying safety gates to the exterior, installing a new security intercom system, and providing new toilet and kitchen facilities. The grant also funded the complete redecoration of the main hall as well as the construction of new storage facilities and an office.
The project is near to completion and has been well received by the numerous clubs, groups and organisations that use the church hall on a regular basis, especially the Hopscotch Plus club who now have a much safer environment with greatly improved facilities to care for children.
